Health Savings Accounts Instructor-Led Icon  
Congress recently passed legislation that allows individuals to accumulate dollars and to pay for nearly all medical care on a pretax basis. This new legislation, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), is patterned after Individual Retirement Accounts. HSAs allow individuals to fund an account on a pretax basis and then to use those funds to pay for medical costs. Dollars that are not used for medical costs may be saved and accumulated from year to year or may be spent on non-medical costs, subject to taxation and penalties.
